What WCAG 2.1 AA means
WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) defines success criteria at three conformance levels: A, AA and AAA. Level A covers the most basic barriers; level AA adds requirements like colour contrast minimums, resizable text and consistent navigation. Level AAA is the strictest and isn't generally expected as a baseline.
Level AA is the legal benchmark used across the EU. EN 301 549 — the European standard referenced by the EAA and by public-sector accessibility law — incorporates WCAG 2.1 level A and AA success criteria directly. Meeting WCAG 2.1 AA is the closest thing to a common baseline across EU accessibility law, which is why it's what we test against, alongside EN 301 549's wider requirements.
What automated checking catches
Automated scans, including ours, catch roughly 30% of WCAG success criteria. They're reliable for things a machine can verify mechanically: missing alt attributes, colour contrast ratios, missing form labels, unnamed buttons and links, and missing document structure.
They can't catch everything. No automated tool can reliably judge whether a keyboard-only journey through a multi-step form actually works, whether alt text is meaningful rather than just present, or whether content imposes an unreasonable cognitive load. Those need a human to test with a keyboard, a screen reader, or both.
We won't claim otherwise. AccessProof is built around continuous monitoring and evidence documentation, not a promise of automated “full compliance.”
How the report works
Issues are ranked by legal risk, not just technical severity — problems like missing alt text, unlabelled form fields, poor colour contrast and keyboard traps are surfaced first, because those are the issues that show up most often in accessibility complaints and lawsuits.
Each issue comes with fix guidance so your team knows what to change, not just what's wrong. You can export the results as a PDF evidence report to keep on file or share with a client, and generate a matching accessibility statement.
